We are surrounded by electronics everyday. Be it the cell phone that is in your back pocket, the ipod in your purse or the computer you are doing your work on. They exist to make our lives easier. Technology is constantly advancing, making many electronics obsolete after a few months. Electronics are making every field easier, be it manufacturing, food service or even managing a library. Another industry they are making a strong appearance in, is the leak detection industry. Electronic leak detectors are one of the more common leak detecting systems used because of its sensitivity and speed.

Electronic leak detectors are the fastest and most sensitive leak detectors, and they tend to be used most often. They are able to provide the fastest way to identify and locate a gas leak. The model can be programmed to identify specific or multiple refrigerants. The most common detected gases by electronic detectors include refrigerants and R12, R22 and R134a. There are two common types of electronic leak detectors which are heated diode and corona discharge. In corona discharge a high voltage circle is created in the sensing tip. Refrigerants enter the field around the sensor, breaking the barrier which triggers an alarm to notify the tester of the leak. A disadvantage to this detector is other particles, such as dust, can also trigger the alarm. A heated diode works in much the same way, but because the sensor is heated, fewer mistakes are made due to items such as dust or moisture. The sensors are triggered by absolute concentration, which allows the alert to increase as gas amounts increase. This process is able to assist in indicating the proximity of the leak.

Many of these electronic leak detectors are handheld. This provides and easy and affordable way to ensure homes and businesses are safe. Refrigerants are common in many industries, and the possible harms they can cause to human and environmental health make this product one more electronic worth investing in.
